Froyo On Droid X? How Do People Have It Already?!?

By admin Posted in: Uncategorized

Hello, so my Droid X ships out in exactly a week due to back orders and I’ve been looking at youtube videos and stuff like that, and lately I’ve seen people showing and sometimes claiming that their X runs Android 2.2, aka Froyo. How is this possible? Is it a tweak? Is it a crack of somesort?
I’m new to Android, have been an iPhone lover for the last few years. My AT&T contract is up on my iPhone 3G (which I jail broke, and knew front to back) and so I’m switching to Verizon for the Droid X.

Both of the answers are NOT correct. You cannot install custom firmware because of the eFuse part on the OMAP chip, but there was an early leak and some users nabbed it.

I believe people with rooted devices can get it now if they want. I’m am not sure if the OTA update has come yet.
Rooting is the equivalent of jailbreaking an iphone. After you do it you can flash custom roms (froyo, custom builds, etc.) onto the device. Along with other things.
OTA is over the air. Meaning verizon sends the updates out to people’s phones. It comes at different time for different people. I currently have the original droid and I just updated to froyo via OTA today.
